The Westinghouse Comet is a beautifully simple matte black ceiling fan with light bright enough to illuminate the room, but that can be dimmed down to a nice mood lighting level.
Not the best for big rooms, this 52 inch fan is more than sufficient for your average bedroom, office, smallish kitchen or even many living rooms and family rooms, and actually moves more air than its size and specifications may seem to suggest.
The Comet’s reversible motor makes it a great choice for both cooling and warming a room, and in either direction the motor, the fan’s housing and the mounting bracket are quiet, stable and secure.
The LED light provides a nice warm color, but fairly neutral and perfectly suitable for both day and night use. The bulbs never need to be replaced, and like the fan motor the light kit is very energy efficient.

One of the best low profile ceiling fans with lights we’ve found at any level, the Hunger Minimus is almost unbelievable at its price!
Even though it’s just a touch over two hundred dollars, the Minimus has the fit and finish you would expect from a more luxury-level product – although we could as easily say it has the fit and finish you would expect from any Hunter fan.
The gorgeously simple three blade design, with no extraneous lines or unneeded details, make this a bit of a classic in minimal style, and the quality of the black finish and the glass light cover just add to the overall impression.
And, again typical of Hunter products, the low noise level, low vibration and overall stability, and relatedly the long term reliability, are all much higher than we have the right to expect at this level.
If there’s a drawback, the Hunter Minimus does not move as much air as either larger fans or fans with downrods and more space above the fan blades – of course, this makes the Minimus suitable for low ceilings and installations where those larger fans wouldn’t work, so it depends on your needs and priorities.
Anyway, for a flush mount design, and for a 44 inch fan, the Hunter Minimus is actually quite effective, and will circulate air beautifully in a smaller bedroom, an office, a closet or a hall, or directly over a table in a dining room or kitchen nook.
The reversible motor and the included remote make this an even more useful fan, and the material and build quality are exceptionally high – all together a wonderful fan at a low price.

I should admit right from the start here that the Minka Aire Skyhawk made this list of best black ceiling fans with light kits based purely on its stunning looks – or at least it could have!
I don’t know if it is the extraordinary finish, the hand carved blades, the just-right curve, the perfect balance between form and function, but it all works, and the Skyhawk ends up being much prettier than so many other similar fans, whether they are more or less expensive.
But I did say “or at least it could have,” and in fact the beauty of the Minka Aire Skyhawk is just part of this extraordinary package.
For such a simple design, and considering how incredibly quiet the Skyhawk is when on, it moves an astounding amount of air, and will work in even the largest rooms, and the reversible motor will make this fan as effective and nice to have in colder months.
It should also be mentioned that this is a damp-rated fan, so if you’re looking for the best black outdoor ceiling fan with light this may well be it – keep in mind, though, that damp-rated isn’t the same as waterproof, and fans like this are meant for covered outdoor areas where they will get at least some protection.

Though the look won’t be to everybody’s taste, we think that this Matthews Dagny LK twin-head model is one of the most interesting and beautiful black ceiling fans we’ve found.
The rotating design and twin heads also make the Dagny really great at cooling all different sizes, shapes and layouts of rooms and interior spaces, aided by the ideal fan shape and pitch, adjustable speed and tilt, and the quiet, powerful and long lasting motor.
Damp rated, and suitable for both indoor and covered outdoor spaces, the Dagny really is versatile, and though, again, not everybody may fall in love with its looks, anybody would love its superb craftsmanship, materials and finish, and it really does work well with a surprisingly wide range of styles, decors and rooms.
Not advanced in the ways we’ve come to expect, the Matthews Dagny does not have WiFi, is not compatible with digital assistants, and will just stare at you blankly if you try to give it a voice command. It does, at least, come with a very good remote, and the dimmable warm white LED lights are as nice as we’ve found.
